Google Business Profile or a website: which do you need?

A Google Business Profile puts you on Google Maps for free, and every local business should have one. But it is not a replacement for a website, and the two work best together.

What a Business Profile does

It shows your name, location, hours, phone number, photos and reviews on Google Search and Maps. It is free and is one of the most useful things a local business can set up.

What it cannot do

You get a small, fixed layout that looks the same as every competitor’s. There is limited room to explain your services, show a full menu or price list, or tell your story.

What a website adds

A website is your own space: as much detail as customers need, designed around your brand, on an address you own. Your Business Profile can link to it, sending interested searchers somewhere that answers every question.

Use both

Set up your free Business Profile, add your website link to it, and keep your hours and details the same on both. Google trusts businesses whose information matches everywhere.

A website from £79

Questions

Is a Google Business Profile really free?

Yes, it is free to create and manage directly with Google.

Will a website help my Maps ranking?

Google considers how relevant and well known a business is, and a good website with matching details can help it understand yours.
